چکیده
This is to certify that the dissertation prepared by Dandan Huang entitled " Electroencephalography (EEG)-based brain computer interfaces for rehabilitation " has been approved by her committee as satisfactory completion of the dissertation requirement for the degree of Doctoral of Philosophy. i Acknowledgments I would like to express my gratitude to all the people who have given their heart whelming full support in making this project a magnificent experience. My foremost thank goes to my Ph.D. adviser Dr. Ou Bai. Without him, this dissertation would not have been successful. I thank him for his patience and support that carried me on through difficulties, and for his knowledge, insights and creativity that inspired me to explore and challenge the unknown. I am very grateful to Dr. Ding-Yu Fei, who encouraged and supported me throughout these years when I'm in VCU. I always enjoy so much from the discussion with him about research and life. I also would like to thank Ms. Cai-Ting Fu, my colleagues at the Technology for their great help, and I really enjoyed the time we spent together. I would like to acknowledge and thank the members of my dissertation committee, Dr. for kindly consenting to serve on my graduate committee and for reviewing and advising on this dissertation. ii Special thanks are given to my parents for their unconditional love, support and encouragement throughout my studies.

EEG Based Brain Computer Interface Hand Grasp Control: Feature Extraction Method MTCSP
Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) are communication systems, which enable users to send commands to computers by using brain activity only; this activity being generally measured by Electroencephalography (EEG). BCIs are generally designed according to a pattern recognition approach, i.e., by extracting features from EEG signals, and by using a classifier to identify the user’s mental state from...

متن کاملEEG-Based Brain–Computer Interfaces for Communication and Rehabilitation of People with Motor Impairment: A Novel Approach of the 21st Century
People with severe neurological impairments face many challenges in sensorimotor functions and communication with the environment; therefore they have increased demand for advanced, adaptive and personalized rehabilitation. During the last several decades, numerous studies have developed brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) with the goals ranging from providing means of communication to functional ...
متن کاملTowards a Brain Computer Interface-Based Rehabilitation: from Bench to Bedside
The application of Brain Computer Interface (BCI) technology in stroke rehabilitation represents one of the most challenging matters in the BCI field. With the aim of developing a specific BCI system for stroke rehabilitation of the upper limb we monitored the EEG sensorimotor reactivity to actual and imaged hand grasping in a group of stroke patients consecutively enrolled from a rehabilitatio...
متن کاملSelecting and Extracting Effective Features of SSVEP-based Brain-Computer Interface
User interfaces are always one of the most important applied and study fields of information technology. The development and expansion of cognitive science studies and functionalization of its tools such as BCI1, as well as popularization of methods such as SSVEP2 to stimulate brain waves, have led to using these techniques every day, especially in appropriate solutions for physically and menta...
متن کاملCurrent trends in Graz Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research.
This paper describes a research approach to develop a brain-computer interface (BCI) based on recognition of subject-specific EEG patterns. EEG signals recorded from sensorimotor areas during mental imagination of specific movements are classified on-line and used e.g. for cursor control. In a number of on-line experiments, various methods for EEG feature extraction and classification have been...
